Moving away

So this is going to be a long post, so fair warning. :)

So as a few may know, I am moving to San Marcos, TX in January 2015 with my boyfriend.

I am pretty excited to move. Excited to get out of east Texas. To be with my boyfriend "starting our own lives". To be independent and learn how to live as an adult.

My boyfriend, his younger brother, and I visited San Marcos this past weekend because my boyfriend had Bobcat Day at Texas State. The school was amazing. It was so huge I feel you could totally get lost in it. We got to visit a couple sessions about different degrees we all were interested in. First we went into the art and design session. I learned a lot about journalism and mass communication which seems like an amazing, challenging career. And of course my boyfriend went there because of communication design. It made him so pumped up about going to this school because TXST has one of the best communication design programs in the nation. Most people who graduate from there get first hand amazing jobs at top notch art director positions. He is sooo excited about that. Since I've been with him graphic design is all he breathes, eats, and sleeps. He dreams about being a well known art director. So it was very very heartwarming knowing he'll get the best education he can and have an exceptionally bright future.

Then we went to the business session for my boyfriends brother. He is looking into going to a CIS (Computer Information System) degree. I also learned about a degree in Accounting. Then finally we went to the Teacher Preparation session. I learned all their is to know about becoming a teacher.

Basically if I decided to teach high school the first two years I would be perusing whichever subject I would like to teach and then the last two years I would be doing the teacher prep classes. If I wanted to do Elementary or Middle school grade (which is what I am leaning more towards) then I would take 4 years of Disciplinary and teacher prep.

I kind of got discouraged because they said that I would basically be at school all day long because I would be student teaching and I would have little room to have a job.
This really worries me because I don't have any family help with my financial needs and I have to support myself for the most part. If absolutely needed I could get some type of help. Although I am very independent and I don't like asking for money unless I have thought through a hundred times ways to make ends meet on my own and come up short.
So because of this, it discourages me that I will be able to get the degree I really am thinking about pursuing. I already have a grand loan from when I went to Cosmetology school.

I could pull out a loan, and I figure if it came down to it, and I have fully decided to become a teacher, I would do what is necessary.

I dream of changing children's lives. To make a difference. Seeing the children's faces when they learn something new. It's all so inspiring to me.

BUT FIRST, we have to move there.

And the trip was actually a success. We were going to separately go to apartment complexes and talk to them about availability and prices, but then we saw this place called apartment guys so we went there to check it out.

Apparently its a business where these Realtors help people find apartments for free. They refer them to apartment complexes and in return they pay them that way.

We talked to him about our specific needs, which wasn't a lot. Just pet friendly and cheapest nicest place there was. Mostly because we aren't sure how much income we will bring in, so it seemed like the best route to go.

We looked at one place and I wouldn't say fell in love but it was pretty freaking nice for the price it was. Very spacious and looked clean. ( which I'm sure the other ones aren't going to be as nice) The reviews online looked like pretty good. More good reviews then bad. I pretty good place for a nice starting out apartment.

After long and careful thought, we put our security deposit down and it and we are 3rd in line. Next month we will start to know if we will be able to get a room or not. If so we will move in the beginning of January.

We are pretty excited to be able to find one so quickly!

Only downside to the situation is that since we will move there in January, looking for a job is going to be a little harder. Most companies will keep Christmas help afterwards meaning less job openings. So we need to put in applications like right now to get our names in their system to keep an eye on.

All in all it was a great successful trip and when we go back in the next couple weeks we'll get more insight on the down and the know how. :)
